ABOUT US

Since 2010, Cairo Greifswald Neurosurgery has been an academic ongoing platform that highlights the field of Neurosurgery, commonly known as the practice of brain surgery. The cooperation’s scientific output represents a joint effort between the Departments of Neurosurgery at Kasr Alainy School of Medicine, Cairo University, Egypt, and Greifswald Medical School, University of Greifswald, Germany, to promote the high-tech specialty of Neuroendoscopy.
As pioneers in Neuroendoscopy harvesting the seeds of a longstanding, successful collaboration, the cooperation is set out to nurture a fruitful common ground across disciplines to expand the scope of the field.
Within the scope of advancing neurosurgical skills, Cairo Greifswald Neurosurgery has set up a Neuroendoscopy blended learning program: the "Certified Training Fellowship in Neuroendoscopy", including a Professional Exchange Programme between the Universities. In parallel, the cooperation contributes to awareness raising of the Hydrocephalus disease, often referred to as ‘water on the brain’, through high-quality research by its lighthouse project: The Hydrocephalus Research Group. Research, exchange, and training weave together the main focus threads of Cairo Greifswald Neurosurgery.

OUR MISSION

The brain as the body’s most complex organ calls for innovative research approaches, interventional procedures, intersectoral and interdisciplinary solutions, and most of all awareness raising among the full spectrum of the medical community; from surgeon to the patient. In response, Cairo Greifswald Neurosurgery was launched to address those crucial issues within the rapidly developing high-specialty of neurosurgery. Setting up a platform to stimulate academic exchange and scientific connection both in the educational and the research landscape of Neurosurgery, the cooperation envisions integrating knowledge production and medical practice across cultures, disciplines, universities, students, and scientists. Building on existing partnerships across international universities, the cooperation facilitates networking opportunities and career developments for junior neurosurgeons that intensify internationalisation and interdisciplinarity in the field of Neurosurgery. Driven by the mission –and passion– to augment the quality and the experience of human health care, the Cairo Greifswald Neurosurgery paves a pathway to our brain.

OUR ACTIVITIES

In the scope of Cairo Greifswald Neurosurgery, the international faculty of the affiliated Universities shine a light on topical crucial issues in the field of Neurosurgery through various forms of scientific engagements and clinical developments, such as research groups, certified trainings, exchange programmes, summer schools, blended learning, expert sessions, and publications and systematic reviews in Neurosurgery. The scientific output of the activities aims to raise awareness of the current trends and approaches, challenges and opportunities, theories and practices in the field of Neurosurgery. The collaboration is therefore highly invested in building a continuous bridge of knowledge transfer across disciplines and beyond the scientific community. Both knowledge production as well as communicating these knowledges are thereby central. Especially junior neurosurgeons are the target group of the cooperation’s activities.
